Taron Brown and Zach Burrell, residents of CareLink’s STAR 1 program, represented the
agency in the 45th Annual Special Olympics Philadelphia Spring Games at William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia on Saturday, April 29, 2023.
Zach was selected to be one of the ambassadors of their basketball team, The Bear Cubs, and was asked to hold the sign and participate in the opening ceremony parade. Taron and Zacharias were fierce competitors throughout all four tournament games played. The Bear Cubs won three out of four games, earning the silver medal!
Taron and Zach showed tremendous commitment to their team, attending practices every Monday for the last few months and working on their skills while at STAR by practicing dribbling, defending, and shooting around.
Special recognition goes out to STAR 1 Residential Counselor Gregory Pierce for his commitment in supporting our residents and their basketball team. Gregory volunteered to coach Taron and Zach’s Special Olympics varsity squad, The Grizzlies, who won the gold medal!
